Program Summary   

OCHCH is excited to offer this program to provide attendees an overview of Medicaid compliance examinations performed by the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office including collaboration with other regulatory agencies. The presenters will discuss frequent issues and common errors identified in compliance examinations of health care providers.  

Additionally, Ohio Council for Home Care & Hospice will explain how Medicaid home care providers can understand administrative rules to stay in compliance. 

At the conclusion of this webinar series the learners will be able to: 

Part 1:  Auditor of the State

  1. Understand the role of the Auditor of State’s office in Medicaid program integrity efforts
  2. Understand the purpose of compliance examinations and the methodology used to conduct them
  3. Gain understanding of stages of the examination and involvement of the Medicaid provider at each stage
  4. Review frequent errors identified in examinations of Medicaid home health services 

Part 2:  OCHCH Regulatory Affairs Director

  1. Gain understanding of Medicaid provider involvement at each stage
  2. Review frequent errors identified in examinations of Medicaid home health services according to Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) 

Who Should Attend: Administrators, Directors of Nursing, Clinical Managers, and QA/PI Managers.

Presenters:

Kristi Erlewine is the Chief Auditor of the Medicaid/Contract Audit section within the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office, where her responsibilities include compliance examinations and agreed upon procedures. Kristi began her career with the auditor’s office in 2002. She has a master’s degree in social work and an MBA in healthcare administration. 

Cherie Couts is the Senior Audit Manager in the Medicaid/Contract Audit section within the Ohio Auditor of State’s offices. Her responsibilities include the overall responsibility for all examination services provided. This includes supervisory responsibility for all lower-level Staff Auditors and Audit Managers. Cherie has a Bachelor of Arts from Marietta College with major in accounting and minor in economics. She is a Certified Fraud Examiner and has been with the Auditor of State’s office for 16 years.  

Beth Foster, RN, BA, CPHQ, is Regulatory Affairs Director for the Ohio Council for Home Care & Hospice. Her home care career began in 1989 as a visiting nurse, progressing into other positions including aide/intake coordinator, hospital system liaison, clinical care manager and director. Previously she served as an Ohio Dept. of Health Surveyor for all provider types including home care and hospice. 

The presenters have declared no conflict of interest for this program and will present fairly and without bias.

Registration FeeOCHCH member rate is $199.00 – Non-members $299.00. Indicate if you will be calling into the live webinar or purchasing the audio recording (fee is the same). The live webinar includes the opportunity to ask questions of the presenter. If you desire to purchase both the live webinar and the audio recording, pay the registration fee and an additional $30. 

Continuing Education: The presenters and program planners have no conflict of interest in regard to this webinar. RNs and LPNs must participate in the entire presentation in order for contact hours to be awarded. To apply for nursing contact hours, please mail or fax an evaluation form and a $10 processing fee for each individual requesting hours. Additionally, send in a completed sign-in sheet, listing the individuals at your facility that participated and noting those requesting contact hours. Individuals requesting contact hours will receive a certificate of contact hours earned.
